Tame — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 November 2026
Tame is a home-screen app (a "launcher") for Android. This policy explains what Tame does with information on your phone. The short version: Tame collects nothing, sends nothing, and has no servers.
What Tame does not do
- Tame has no internet permission. It cannot send anything off your phone, and it has no servers of its own.
- Tame has no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no tracking of any kind.
- Tame does not sell or share any information with anyone.
What stays on your phone
Tame keeps its own settings on your phone so it can work: your favorites, your essentials, which apps are hidden, renamed or paused, your pause and schedule settings, your notes, a count of how often apps were opened, and, if you turned screen time on, your daily totals. This stays in Tame's private storage on your phone. Uninstalling Tame deletes it. If you choose Export settings, Tame writes a file wherever you pick; that file is yours and Tame never sends it anywhere.
Optional permissions, and why
Each of these is off until you turn it on, and Tame works without them.
- List of installed apps. Tame reads the apps that have a launcher icon so it can show them. It does not read their content.
- Notification access (notification digest). When you turn the digest on, Tame can see notifications (which app, the title and the text) so it can hold the ones you chose and show them together later. Android keeps the held notifications; Tame stores only a reference to each one and its delivery time, never the text, and never sends anything anywhere. If Tame stops, held notifications arrive as normal.
- Usage access (screen time). When you turn screen time on, Tame reads how long each app was on screen, to show your totals, your goal and your days in a row. The numbers stay on your phone.
- Calendar (optional home-screen line). Read only, to show your next event. Nothing is stored.
- Fingerprint or screen lock (hidden apps). Used only through Android's own prompt to reveal hidden apps. Tame never sees your fingerprint.
- Wallpaper. Used only when you press "plain black lock screen".
Purchases (Tame Pro)
Tame Pro is sold through Google Play. Google handles the payment and the account; Tame never sees your card or payment details. Tame asks Google Play only whether you have an active purchase, and remembers that yes or no on your phone so Pro works offline. Google's privacy policy covers the purchase itself: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Children
Tame does not collect any information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date.
